Characteristics

The Husky has a gentle manner and even temperament.  Husky is a term generally applied to any Northern sled dog; only the Siberian has it as part of his official name.  He is smaller and lighter than the Alaskan Malamute and Eskimo Dog.

  • Like all dogs that must withstand a harsh climate he has a thick double coat.
  • His face is foxy, his eyes are set slightly on a slant, but not a as much as a Malamute’s.
  • His bushy tail is carried in a sickle curve over his back when he is running or standing at attention.
  • Like all Artic breeds he has a "snowshoe foot" meaning somewhat webbed to help him plow through snow.
  • He gives voice with a howl, rather than a bark.

Size

  • Males are between 45 to 60 pounds and when measured from the shoulder should stand between 21 and 23 1/2 inches.
  • Females are between 35 to 50 pounds and when measured from the shoulder should stand between 20 to 22 inches.
